Caribbean Cruise: Stop in Cozumel, Mexico, an island off of the Yucatan Peninsula

Monday:  Cozumel, just East of the Yucatan peninsula, Mexico

After breakfast, we headed to shore for a 10 a.m trip to Chankanaab Park Beach.

As we got off the ship in each port, people from the cruise dressed up in costume for us to get their pictures with them--for us to buy pater.  I took some on my own.

Before we met up with our group, we walked through the tourist shops.  We thought this was a statue until he moved.  Timna gave him a nice tip.  He had a great costume!

Our guide was Oscar, and he was great.  He has a B.A. in Marketing but couldn’t get a job so has been working as a tour guide for ten years.  After taking a van to the park, we settled in. 

The park is in a beautiful setting and very much developed.  There are several restaurants along the way, places to get drinks and with lockers, and also places to rent snorkeling gear and go out in a group.

  First we saw some dolphins jumping in an enclosed area by shore.

  Then we tried snorkeling.  We were told that Jonah was too young (not yet 8) when we bought the tickets for the tour, but Oscar said that he would see what he could do.  We outfitted both Zekey and Jonah..  Zekey couldn’t get used to the snorkeling gear so savta headed back to the beach with him where we went into shallow waters and saw a lot of small fish and two pelicans. 

 Jonah and Mommy did really well. but we didn't get any photos of them.

 Hey, Zekey!  Keep your tongue in your mouth.  Salt water is yucky!!

On the way to lunch, Jonah and I walked past the restaurant and saw a cool dolphin sculpture.

 We had lunch.  Yum ceviche!  Jonah enjoyed a hamburger.

  Then we saw a sea lion show. The boys really enjoyed it.

Jonah didn't want to get a sea lion kiss, but after seeing Zekey and Savta getting one, he got in line and was the last to get a kiss.

  Mommy and Savta had a pina colada and the boys had some time in the pool .  Zekey had a strawberry drink and Jonah had fruit punch.

  We did not have time for the crocodile pond of kayaking before we headed back but we had a lot of fun.

 As we walked back to the pier, mommy spotted a place where they made name bracelets out of strong cords.  Zekey and Jonah picked out the colors they wanted for their bracelets and then watched the men make them.  Savta also got one with purple for Elizabeth.
